Moukhtar (Village Head)
The Miye ou Miye village was divided administratively into two parts: one part of the town followed the Ottoman Empire policies, and had to choose a village head “Moukhtar”. The other part of the town was under Mount Lebanon jurisdiction and had to elect a reconciliation officer (Shiekh El-Solh). In 1928, a new law was enacted that abolished the reconciliation officer position and kept the Moukhtar position in all Lebanese villages.
There are no documents to confirm the names and dates of the mandate of the former Makhateer. The majority of the records were destroyed during the civil war in 1985. So, we relied on memory:
Based on the population of Miye ou Miye in 2016, we are entitled to have three village heads (Makhateer).
